excited today to talk to you about why
you need a hair and makeup
artist so I talk to photographers all
the time all across the country all
across the world and some of them tell
me that they have a hair makeup artists
that they use that they hire that they
have for their clients and some tell me
that they don't so some people tell me
that they don't have a hair and makeup
artist because they want to learn to do
it themselves they're a lone wolf and
they don't want to hire people or that
it's just too
expensive so I'm here today to tell you
that I believe it is super important and
super profitable for you to hire a hair
and makeup artist and I have uh my top
10 reasons why I believe believe you
should hire a hair and makeup artist to
go along with the photography services
that you offer so I have been a
full-time budoir photographer for almost
a decade um I have photographed almost
2,000 women and for almost every one of
those sessions I have had a hair and
makeup artist do a Glam look for the
client to get them ready for that photo
experience and that has come by hiring
really fabulous hair and makeup artists
so let me give you 10 reasons why I
believe that every photographer should
hire a hair and makeup artist to have on
their team whether or not you have a
studio space whether or not you shoot
BDO if you shoot women at all families
weddings branding anything I believe you
should have hair and makeup artists it
will just take your work and your brand
to the next level so here are the 10
reasons okay number one it creates a
luxury experience getting your hair and
makeup done as a client feels like a
luxury right you've got someone there
taking care of you doing your hair feels
so good to get your makeup done it just
is it it is a pampering luxury
experience for your client that will
will
Elevate The Experience from just sort of
a you know hey I got my picture taken to
wow I had a really really luxury
experience
and remember when you provide a luxury
experience you can charge a luxury price
tag all right number two um hiring a
fabulous hair and makeup artist is going
to differentiate you from other
photographers and from other Studios so
you have to remember when people decide
they want to hire a photographer when
they decide they want to get their photo
taken a lot of times they are
calling lots of places right they're
calling in around they're doing a little
research not not always like not not
every client is going to do that but a
lot of clients are going to be calling a
couple of places before they make a
final decision if they're going to
invest the time the energy and the money
into hiring a photographer they might do
some research and when they find out
that you have a hair and makeup artist
when you have a beauty team when you
include that in your services you are
going to um differentiate yourself
they're going to remember like oh yeah
that's the one that had the hair and
makeup artist included like that's a
good deal you know so um that's going to
help you stand out number three having a
hair hair makeup artist is going to
increase the number of bookings you get
this is because when um when people hear
about hair and makeup they get more
excited about the experience it just it
it gives them that reason to say like oh
I can do this I can book this right so
you will differentiate yourself in their
mind from the other Studios they might
be calling and then they will be more
likely to book with you when you have a
fabulous hair and makeup artist on your
team number four having a fabulous hair
and makeup artist on your team will
reduce cancellations and no
shows you might not initially think of
this but um raise your hand or put in
the comments if you ever have
cancellations or no shows it happens
right how does having a hair and makeup
artist reduce this well one of the
reasons that I have found that people
cancel or have no shows is because of
the amount of homework they have to do
before they come into a shoot so like
think about
this before someone comes in for a photo
shoot they might have to go shopping for
new outfits or clothes get their nails
done maybe they're interested in waxing
um getting their hair dyed um maybe they
have to um get child care like there's
just a lot of things that people clients
have to do before they come into a photo
shoot I call that their homework and
what you want to do is try to make that
homework
easy and
manageable and um because I believe that
the amount of homework that people have
to do often leads to cancellations and
no shows so if you can reduce that for
people you are going to have more people
show up so one of the ways you can
reduce the homework people have to do is
um by having hair and makeup artists
because that's one less thing they don't
have to worry about right they don't
have to think like I have to look great
before I come I have to get my makeup
done and then drive over in the winter
or anything like that right they just
show up with clean dry hair and no
makeup on and it just makes them it that
much easier for them to show up there's
other ways you can reduce the amount of
homework people have to do as well we
can talk about that another time but
hair and makeup is one of those things
you can do that just makes it easy for
people to say yes and show up okay
number five if you have a professional
hair and makeup artist who's really good
at hair and makeup your clients will
love their photos
more if they have just that perfect hair
and makeup the airbrush making their
skin look fabulous the lashes giving
them that eye definition little
contouring here they will love their
photos more they might not even even be
able to tell you why but when they see
their pictures with that professional
hair makeup done they will just be like
wow I love these photos and they want to
buy them right and that's your whole
goal right so professional hair and
makeup just automatically elevates the
images so that your clients love them
more I mean I know this is true for me
when I got head shot taken not too long
ago I had my hair makeup professionally
done before the head shot and the head
shot I love them they look so much
better than anything I could have done
um because of the hair and makeup right
it just made look more polished so your
clients will love their photos the more
photos a client loves the more they'll
buy number six with a professional hair
and makeup artist professional hair and
makeup artist you will love your photos
more as a photographer okay so um as a
photographer we're often relying on our
clients to help us to create the
beautiful images right we're taking a
picture of their face of their body
right so we're relying on them to bring
good outfits to look good to pose to to
smile you know
and sometimes that's great and sometimes
that can be frustrating right but if you
add professional hair and makeup you are
going to love your pictures all the much
more as an artist you are going to be
happier with the images you are creating
because of the gorgeous makeup that is
in the
pictures and um when you love the
pictures more it's easier to sell them
it's easier to have a portfolio your
proud of which people will see and will
get will book you more so it just has
this ripple effect of creating more
beautiful images that you love you want
to show you want to sell and people want
to
buy number seven reason why you need a
hair and makeup artist is it reduces the
amount of retouching work you need to do
so I do something called Same Day sales
where I show people their images the
same day that they come into the studio
and what I love is that since my clients
have already had professional hair
makeup done they already look fabulous
the amount of retouching I have to do is
much more
minimal okay so um imagine people seeing
their images the same day and they
already love them because their hair
makeup is just Flawless right their
brows are perfect their skin is Flawless
they have gorgeous lipstick contouring
all that right they are going to say I
love these pictures and they're not even
retouched yet now you can still do some
retouching no problem but it will reduce
the amount of retouching you have to do
if you have a professional hair makeup
artist who's gotten your client's camera
ready number eight um having a
professional hair and makeup artist
gives the the client some time to settle
in and allows you to talk to the client
before you start the photo shoot so
during hair makeup I have the client
sitting in the chair hair and makeup
artist working on hair and makeup and
then I'm in front of the client chatting
with them and this is a really important
time for me to get to know the client to
understand what it is that they want to
get out of their shoot to understand the
goal and to start laying the seeds for
the sale that's coming later if I was
also trying to do hair makeup during
that time or if the client had come with
their hair makeup already done I
wouldn't have that hour that I find
really important to establishing new
Rapport figuring out what we're going to
do and starting the process of the sale
so that time which by the way is 60 to
90 minutes for the hair and makeup at my
studio that time is essential to my
process process and I would never want
to give that up right so I need the hair
makeup artist to be working doing the
hair makeup on the client to give me
that hour 60 to 90 minutes to talk to
the client before the photo shoot starts
it's key to making my Same Day sales
process
work number nine hiring a hair and
makeup artist is going to get you more
referrals so hair and makeup artists
work with a lot of women right um they
may not just be working at your studio
they're going to be doing um Bridal they
might be doing branding shots for other
photographers they might be um working
at a salon right so hair and makeup
artists in your area local hair and
makeup artists who are entrepreneurs
themselves who are running their own
business as hair makeup artists are
fabulous people for you to know they are
a gold mine of connections to your
community and to other women other
clients who might want to come into your
studio for a shoot so you want to get to
know the makeup artist allows you to
really focus on that um if you're trying
to do the hair makeup yourself um you're
just going to be pulled in a lot of
different directions but hiring a hair
makeup artist allows you specifically to
be the photographer to focus on that and
Outsource everything else by the way I
believe in Outsourcing everything that
you can in your photography business so
this is just one of them so those are my
10 reasons why you should hire a hair
and makeup artist it creates a lecture
experience for your clients number one
number two it differentiates you from
other Studios number three you'll get
more bookings because you have more
clients saying yes to the experience
you're offering number four will reduce
the number of cancellations and no shows
that you have number five the clients
will automatically love their photos
more number six you will love the photos
more number seven it reduces the amount
of retouching work you need to do number
eight it allows a client to did I get my
fingers wrong here number eight it
reduces the amount of retouching work
you need to do because the makeup will
already cover a lot of things that you
would have had to retouch number
nine sorry number eight it gives the
client time to settle in um it gives you
that 60 minutes to get in touch with the
client and get to know what they want
number nine it increases the number of
referrals that you're going to get
because the hair makeup artists have
connections to refer people to you and
number 10 it allows you to photo focus
on your craft as a photographer and not
learning how to do a hair and makeup so
